Where can I have my snake popped/probed?
    Hey everyone,

Almost done with school! Anyway, I will be getting my rescue soon and I am wanting to have it sexed properly. Where do people go for popping or probing? I assume a herp vet can probe, but I have heard some people say you can only probe the babies, and after that they need to be popped. Are their some breeders pop for people in their area on occasion, or is that typically looked down on?
    Thanks,

Edit: I just called the rec'd herp vet in my area (Lansing, MI), and inquired about office visits and probing. It sounds like it would cost me about 60 bucks to take it to the vet for a check and probing. I will probably end up doing this anyway, since he hasnt been checked yet, but does anyone know of anyone else that may be cheaper?

You can pop or probe any age. Call your local herp society or local zoo and see if they can recommend someone to sex them for you at no charge. I usually try to help people local to me.

I got the breeder I bought from to pop him for me. I could also ask my vet. A good vet check-up usually doesn't cost much and is a good idea for a rescue and you can get it done then:)

Yeah, would be about 60 bucks for a checkup and sexing at the vet, I am a member of MSU's herp club, I can ask about probing or popping suggestions there. I'll try some zoo's around here too, thanks guys. Also, I applied to work at a well known pet store in lansing that specialized in herps, exotic fish and birds (Preuss Pets). I have heard a lot of people on the forums reccomending them, would it be a good or bad idea to ask them about it too? Several of the reptile room workers own bp's as well. Thanks again for all the help.
