basking temp

just wanted to check what the safe range is for the basking area on the warm side (when using heat lamps). i just moved Lennie's tank elsewhere in the house today and i'm still adjusting tank tamps with the new room. my ambient temp is at about 89 right now,the substrate under the lamp is between 89 and 92

Personally 95 deg. Is where I try to stay.
Others might say 100 give or take 5 deg.
I stick at 95 just because its what works best in keeping my 80 deg constant..

Be sure if ya dont all ready get a laser temp guage to check it so not to cook your snake.. That would suck bad..

I think 100 is way to high and your current set up would work fine for your warm side temps. Just make sure your cool side temps stay in the 80-84 range as well.

:weirdface I doubt that any member here will say that 100F is good-- it's NOT. Way too hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :O:O:O
Most members keep their hot spot around 92F.
Also, measure UNDER the substrate to get proper temps! :)

You would be surprised and even in books it says 100 +.. Crazy huh..

But I have had peeps on here say 95 to 100. I was just putting in my 2 cents. Note I didnt say to put it at that. :gj:

There is a big difference between temp right under a lamp and on the sunstrate/under the substrate/under a hide. WaRocker, are you saying your hottest spot right under the lamp is 95-100, or on the substrate is 95-100?

The most current books on Python regius care (the Barker's book and McCurley's book) DO NOT suggest temps at 100+. On the contrary, they keep temps lower than most keepers of snakes! If a book that you're reading suggest those temps- throw that book away!!! :O:O:O:weirdface

Right directly under the lamp is 95 deg. The basking rock it is on when he is not in shed is at about the same temp down to 87 deg
