Breeding Test Run

Ok, so after popping my snakes over the weekend I discovered that my 1400+ gram male is actually a female! I am so excited to finally have breedable female especially since I believed that I have 7 males and 1 230g female. I have never bred before and was looking to start this December after I purchased a few sizable females. I am now thinking about trying to breed her now just so I can figure out the process a bit before I start breeding multiple females this winter, and to get an idea of what I am doing! I was planning on turning off their UTH and lights. This would make their tanks room temperature, about 74-77 degrees. I am hoping this will slow their feeding down so they will get into that breeding mode. If there is anyone out there that has successfully bred in the summer please give me some tips on how to get started. Also if ya'll don't think it would be a good idea and think that I should just wait, also let me know! Any help is always appreciated!

My question is why give it a dry run if your not ready to breed what happens when she does become gravid and your not ready.? I'd say just ready up get your self ready and then go for it for real this fall. :D

I agree. If you have a plan for if she does get gravid then go for it!

We would be able to care for the female and incubate the eggs proberly if she were to become gravid. If we were to breed them we obviously will be expecting babies, so it won't be a surprise or anything. We know what to do on paper but translating written directions to real life is sometimes difficult and doesn't always go as easy as predicted.
The original plan was for December because 1) We didn't realize we had a breedable female and 2) We are going to an expo in September that will provide us with breedable females.
The reason we are considering this "test run" is if we were to do something wrong, then at least it would only affect one clutch and not 3 or 4. It's the same concept of playing a scrimage soccer match. It gives you practice in a simpler version of the real situation. But, if overall people believe that it is a bad idea then we most likely will not proceed.

Not at all a bad idea...In fact I went lite this year to kind of ease into it myself My only concern was that your dry run would turn out to be a real deal and then your not prepaired for it. of course your not going to be prepaired for every thing you run up on any way..

1400G is breeding size but it wouldnt hurt to bulk her up a lil more. If I were you I'd pack some more weight on her and get everything ready for November.
