Well I got him a girl
A guy I work with has been looking for a home for his female ball python. I wasn't going to pick up anymore snake until after I moveto FL. , but... he made me a really sweet deal on her and she has a really good temper so I went ahead and got her. I gave her a week to settle in and then I showed him his new girl. Well he didn't waist anytime. They were locked up in a couple hours. I hope she lays good eggs for me. She is four to five years old. So I figured she is plenety old enuff. Well heres a pic of the pair.

Congrats on the new addition, but Quarantine is generally three months, not one week. :(

i was thinking the exact same thing lol.

but yeah, nice lookin... but i deff would have waited ATLEAST a month... i always go 2-3 months... because there is no telling what some one is covering up...

i have a friend who got a new ball back a few months ago... that had a BAD virus... you just dont know... she QT'd it, but it some how spread... even through good cleaning and disinfecting. you just dont know... she ended up loosing alot of her collection, even with the snake still in QT. you just shouldnt risk it.

    sorry to rant lol

I generally do the qt. but I know this guy and this is the only snake he has had . He has been talking to me about the snake for quite some time. And I did really check her over good before bringing her in the house. Plus I got her tank with her. I dont use glass but I took it anyways so I could look for mites. I understand what you all are saying though. thanks for the comments everyone..

It used to be important, but I dont know when the line slowly disappeared. LOL I see more and more people that just get and throw em together. Not trying to bash anyone, but its QT for a reason.

Yep, I know what you mean Pat.. The Qt line for my snakes ends about 10 miles away at my vet's place where they stay for a month or so. If the snake is from a personal friend, and we share airspace anyway, such as Sarah up in Plano, then I don't worry, because we keep our snakes exactly the same way. But if the snake is from Craigslist, someone I don't know very well, or a breeder I've never dealt with before, then they go to my vet's place. If I have dealt with the person before, the snake in question goes in my living room, 2 rooms away from my collection. Sonja, my boa, was quarantined for a very long time at Frankykeno's(Jo) house and then went to my vet's for another 5? months just to ensure that she wasn't going to have problems. She's now in my living room and not close to any of the Ball Pythons even after all that quarantine time.

I've already dealt with a chronic RI case from a "friend" that also killed one of my other babies(granite). The snake was QTined for a month and was fine, but WHAM! full-blown RI that didn't respond to ANY antibiotics or treatment I tried. That snake had been in my rack, at the bottom anyway, and my snakes had been exposed to her. She immediately got put back into quarantine and battled that RI for 5 more months before she passed. It's now 4 months later and all of mine are fine thank goodness. Makes you realize that you can't really be too careful.
