Assist feeding

My 100gm male BP has not eaten since i got him 3 weeks ago my husbandry is fine as discussed in another thread. I thought it would be wise to phone the shop where i got him to see what techniques they used to feed him and they told me that they just left the f/t in the tank but to bring him back to them for a month or so, so they could get him feeding. after a few more probing questions they admitted that they would be assist feeding:O him is this a good idea?:confused:

At his size I'd say no. If he was eating prior to them saleing him to you then he should eat again with some minor tweaking. Assit feeding is just shy of force feeding and can be more stress on the animal than is needed.

Id try a live mouse before you assist with feeding... Ive never had a new snake not eat a live mouse within a week of getting settled in.

I dont belive a word the guy at that shop tells me.

Its very hard to get live in the uk and with only one ball in the collection so far its not worth breeding them.

I just thought it would stress him even more and considering he was aparently eating before i got him i think he just needs to settle.

I wouldn't assist feed until you've tried every little trick there is. Live small or hopper mouse I'll bet will do the trick. Be sure to leave him alone as much as possible so he can settle in.

I havent held him for two weeks and only disturbed him for general viv maintenance.

I cant get mice under the age of 6 months due to pet shops not selling feeder mice in the uk so feeding live is a real problem for me!

I will be trying braining next!
