    DIY hide boxes
Hello everyone, I have seen some great looking bp pics since joining the forum. In the background of some pics I have seen some really great looking home made hide boxes. I am thinking about doing some diy projects to save money for the snakes.

Post pics of your diy hide boxes so I and others can get some ideas.

    thanks,
    mike

I've used thick plastic halloween serving bowls(they are purple with black spiders on them). Just solder an entrance in the side and voila, a nice hide that is easy to clean. They were $1 apiece. I've also used washed, single-serve food trays(the black ones). The snakes seem to like them. I've also used the black containers from Chik Fil-A that the caramel sauce comes in and the big containers that the fruit salad comes in. Black, plastic and easy to clean.

For my adults I use upside down small catlitter pans. Just cut a door and you're set. They fit perfectly in my CB-70 tubs as well.

My local Menards (hardware store) has these brightly colored popcorn bowls. They are fairl thin, pretty big, and cheap at 97 cents each. I got some snipping shears and voila! Instant hidebox.

If you have a rack, I think one thing to keep in mind is weight. If you are using clay pots for example, and you add up that weight over 8/12 slots it could be a pretty significant force weighing down on your rack, i.e. rack sag.

    Use your imagination :)

I think this thread answers the age-old question of "how many times can "voila" be said in one conversation?"

I actually used one of those containers for protein shakes. They're made of some pretty good plastic.

My roomate is kind of a health freak so I took one of the containers for his protein and cut it in half. Makes a great hide and the BP loves them. That and they come out identical.

Here's an older pic. I have since added some more vines along the back to make it look better :P

Smaller than cereal bowl size plastic bowls from the dollar store, really nice for the little ones....

Close-up of hide pictured above with a happy little snake tucked inside....

Heavy rubber dog dishes from the farm supply store, very nice for the bigger ones up to about 1,500 grams or thereabouts....

Terracotta planter saucers...used to use these but they are more trouble than they are worth trying to chip out a darn entrance hole...the plastic ones are far better....
