5 months and now he's acting sooo strange...
I've had Kingsley for 5 months now. And this past week he has been acting very strange. He is never in his hides, he always crawling around or just laying stretched out in his cage. I don't understand why all of a sudden his behavior has changed so much. Since daytime activity can be attributed to stress Im gonna list my set up. Also he hasn't had a meal in 2 weeks because I had to move him. He might just be hungry but Im not sure. Feeding day is tomorrow.
10 gal glass tank
Screen top covered with foil tape
CHE plugged into rheostat
UTH plugged into thermostat
Viva paper towels for bedding
2 black creaturecubby hole hides
1 Acu-Rite thermometer to measure temps and humidity.
3 sides covered for security
1 ceramic water dish
Current stats:
90.7 warm side
83.0 ambient
50% humidity
Re: 5 months and now he's acting sooo strange...
It sounds to me like you have already identified 2 different possibilities for this.
1) - stress - you just moved him
2) - hunger - he missed eating for a week
I'd suggest go ahead with your scheduled feeding and you might find that he returns to normal when his belly is full.
Even if he doesn't, it could easily be the stress of the move. Give him more time, or help speed things up by adding crumpled newspaper balls into his tank or cover all or part of the 4th side to help him feel more secure.
Also, where did you move him from and to? Is there more noise (vibrations)? More traffic? Anything else that might make the new location more stressful?
Re: 5 months and now he's acting sooo strange...
Well I moved him home for a week during spring break and then brought him back after break. Where he is at now is what he's used to.

Since so many snakes seem to be very active right now...some of us seem to think it may be a springtime thing or something. It is common recently in the threads to see strange and restless behaviors in our bp's.
If you are not doing anything too drastically different, then in my opinion I don't think you have anything to worry about.
