Snakes and Rodents in same room ?
Is it ok to keep your breeding rodents in the same room as your snakes?
Re: Snakes and Rodents in same room ?
Lots of people do it but I dont/wont. My snakes behave very differently when they smell rodents. I wouldnt want to prescent the room 24/7, but thats how I do it.
Re: Snakes and Rodents in same room ?
I keep my rodents in the same room as most of my snakes out of necessity. The snakes are in the den/bedroom and the rodents are in tubs on the shelves in the walk-in closet.
I can't say that I've noticed a difference in their behavior since I started breeding rodents. I do keep the tubs quite clean and only have 2.10.19...and the babies don't stay around all that long.
You can always try it and if your snakes react adversely, move the rodents somewhere else.

Before moving to a new snake room I did it for over a year and never had any issue!
Re: Snakes and Rodents in same room ?
Due to lack of space, as of now, my rats are housed in the same room. I would like to one day (when the colony is expanded) move all the rat bins into a different room that is only for rats.
Re: Snakes and Rodents in same room ?
Well, my rodent corner (dining room) is just across from my QT area (living room), and I never had any problems with them...unless you count being quite ready to eat when feeding day came along. :) All it took to let them know was to bring the mouse to the tub. Once they saw it, they were ready.
Otherwise, the main collection is in the bedroom; furthest room from the mice just to lessen the 'tempting reminders of food'.
Re: Snakes and Rodents in same room ?
We had a large female that got really snappy when we had rodents in the same room. Then when she started to shed she got so bad she was striking the front of the tub when anyone walked by. We moved the rats into the basement and have plans to make a room in the basement for nothing but rats. Our goal is to get up to 4.72.0 of breeding rats (one male to cycle through 6 tubs with 3 females in each for 12 week cycling) and who knows how many feeders and hold overs being raised to replace other feeders. Since the move the big girl has really melowed out and has become one of the nicest snakes to handle.
Re: Snakes and Rodents in same room ?
We've got all the ball pythons sharing one very large room with our rat colony. I can't say I've noticed any difference in ease of handling, feed response, etc. I'd love to have a room just for the rats but for now, it's what it is. Doesn't seem to bother the snake or the rats for that matter.
Re: Snakes and Rodents in same room ?
I birth hundreds of rats a month in the same room as my snakes. I do have fans running on then to help keep them cooler but I haven't seen any problems with doing it this way in fact I have see stronger feeding responces since my move but that could be atributed to many different factors.
Re: Snakes and Rodents in same room ?
I also keep my rats (1.3 ASF's & 1.4 Reg. Rats) in the same room as my snakes, no issues yet and it's been about 2 months.
