Over weight boa
Hello, i purchased a boa and she is morbidly obese. She has fat and "rolls" all over, even her tail. She is about 7.5ft, 50+ pounds and about four years old. I plan on taking her off feed for atleast 2 months and a half. Has anyone else had an obese snake, if so, do you have any other advice on taking the weight off? Thanks

Re: Over weight boa
I wouldn't take her off feed during that time (I know she would be fine if she was )...I would just offer her small food items. I have never had experience with this so bare with me.
I would love to hear what others have to say though.

Re: Over weight boa
Even though I've never dealt with obese snakes either, I would agree with Ashley. Just offer a small prey item maybe once every 10-12 days. That's what I was doing with my ghost corn male for a while there when his weight gain was going too fast. He's stable again now, FYI. :)
But, as was said, let's see what the experts have to say. :D

ya feed him just less than normal and let him get some exercise everyday.

Re: Over weight boa
Feed her less than normal, because you don't want to start an unhealthy habbit of her NOT eating... because thats harder to reverse.

Re: Over weight boa
If it were me, I would take the snake to a good reptile vet and get their advice and plan for weight reduction. Your vet can also help then if the weight doesn't come off as desired, or heaven forbid, other health problems occur.
Good luck!
