Het red Axanthic question

To my understanding a Het red axanthic shows up as a black backed snake, but wouldn't that make it a codom snake and have its own name and not be called just a "Het" red axanthic? To me i really like het red axanthics for some reason, and the pastel hr was awesome. I would like to see how it would look in a lesser form. Thanks, Matt

If memory serves the super form Red Axanthic is what was first imported from Africa...so when it reproduced offspring these were just called Het Red Axanthic. This is backwards to how most codoms have appeared (usually it is breeders who discover a super form in the Red's case nature found it first).

They are called het Red Axanthics because they are the het form of a Red Axanthic...

I believe that Cory Woods bought the het red axanthics from the barkers or Collette (can't remember which) as kind of unique looking snake. When he bred the offspring back he ended up with the red axanthic. So he called them het red axanthic since that is what they are. It would be like calling a pastel a het super pastel.

Well, some people have also taken to calling their yellow bellies Het Ivories. It's not a bad choice since the term yellow belly really isn't that descriptive for many of them. I think Corey did have another name for the het reds when he first introduced them but I can't remember what it is now, I think it had something to do with them being mostly black backs, genetic black back maybe??? I think that het red axanthic is a good choice because it's more descriptive of what they can produce. It's just a name after all, As long as you know what it can do for you, thats all that really matters.

Would it bred to an albino make some sort of snow, or just copy the pattern and not take on the color?

I would imagine that you could use the red axanthic to make some sort of double homozygous snake that looks snow like. I'm sure somebody is working on it.

I would bet the first person playing with this is Ralph Davis as he was the first with the snow of several if not all the different axanthic lines and the blue eyed Lucy. I'm not sure I would have to look, but I think the black eyed Lucy was first created by someone else. With all the work Ralph has put into the creation of pure white snakes, I would think he would be the first on the wagon trying to make something with the Red Axanthic.

The first black eyed leucistic was produced by Eric Page-Davies over in England. I would imagine that Ralph probably is working on a snow using the red axanthic, since he went big into the red axanthics when Corey first introduced them. I'd have to look over his birthing records but I'd be willing to bet he probably already has double hets created. But I would also imagine that Corey is probably working on it as well. It'll be interesting to see who gets there first.
