I had no idea they were so intelligent!
I just posted a thread that showed my new milk snake. He's my first, and until now I've not really had much experience with them. When I was feeding him tonight (Which didn't go as smoothly as I'd hoped but he's got his belly full now and that's all that matters) I realized just how intelligent they are.
He's completely different from my pythons. He CALCULATES. It's insane. The python waits for dinner like an obedient dog; this guy dove right past the tongs and almost made it out through the crack in the lid. When I managed to get him back in the tub you could just see the gears turning inside that little snake brain...
He's plotting something; I can feel it.
How come no one warned me about the intelligence level? -lol-

They pay some of us to facilitate their reproduction and distribution so that they can then implement one of the most creative and secret "take over the world" plans since Pinky and the Brain went off the air.
They are cool snakes, as a rule. I work with sinaloans and hondurans now but have bred quite a few others as well. They're neat snakes.
Wait until you get one in the same room with a Calking. Whoooo Wheeee, talk about being manipulated.....

Colubrids can certainly keep you on your toes (or off of them.. my corn snake likes to come out and try to EAT my toes..)

I don't think they are any different than any other snake when it comes to intelligence, it's just that colubrids are far more active than most boids (except for Rosies). Though yours might be an exception... Make sure he doesn't order anything weird off ebay LOL.

As a general rule, boids and colubrids may not be very different in the realm of intelligence. (Maybe, maybe not. I'd imagine this is a debatable subject) But between the snakes that I own, and the ones that *I* have had experience with, there is a world of difference.
The ball that I have now is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. She has no concept of gravity, and no desire to escape. (Though maybe that's more intelligent than I'm giving her credit for. ;)) Her actions are just that of a python - a snake, an animal with a relatively small brain.
The milk on the other hand ... He's already attempted several escapes and he's only been here two days. He's found a spot on the lid that if pushed just right, will give way. I've had to alter my set-up. Not to mention the stunt he pulled the other day during feeding...
I've never worked with colubrids before, so this is incredible to me. :oops:
