    Anyone ever think of....
    Going "off the grid"?
Or have you ever lived off the land for a while?

Ive always wanted to live life on the road never knowing whats going to happen or who your going to meet next. For years its been a dream and I almost did it a few years ago. I left my parents house in texas without saying a word and headee here to washington. Car broke down on the way in Cali and I made it the rest of the way on my own. Got here with $40 in my pocket and a backpack on my back. Met some people and stayed at a few places for the first few months then ended up where I am now. Happy with my gf, in my own place, and lots of pets. But I still feel like something is missing.

Id like to hear any opinions about the subject or even some real life experiences with this if you have some.

I would LOVE to go off the grid for a while. I've thought about it since I was in boy scouts as a kid. I think it would be really cool to go out into the woods in the mountains somewhere with a backpack and basic essential supplies and live off the land for a couple weeks... Maybe I'll have to do that for a vacation this summer...

i think about this a lot... if i didnt have a wife and a kid i probably would. i love my family, both extended and immediate, but sometimes the idea of complete simplification is extremely appealing.

There's a different version of "off the grid" that means not connected to power, cable, water etc.
I have a friend that uses satillite internet, and solar power everything. Gas for cooking. He generates enough solar power that the electric company actually used to pay HIM money. Now he's disconnected completely. I always though it was be nice, but it's more work than I'd want to do honestly. I like stability.
