I think Vincent is a girl? *Popping question*
I tried to pop Vincent a couple of times tonight and I got nothing. I dunno if I'm doing it right, but I was following along with Ralph Davis.

What does a female look like when you are popping them? Doesn't nothing come out, or does it just look like a pink hole? Because that's kinda what I saw.

I've also tried popping Monty by watching Ralph's video (boy, he makes it look so easy) and by reading how it's done in Kevin McCurley's book. But either I'm not doing it right, I'm being too gentle to get his hemi's to pop, or Monty is a she. So I'll also be watching this thread for any new insight. :teevee:

its appears that i have a girl on my hands

a friend of mine has been a vets assistant for a few years and she suggested using a bobby pin as a probe as long as you dont twist it. it has the little plastic ball on the end and is nearly the same size as a probe. so i lubed one up and very gently checked her and it only went in 3-4 scales worth...female correct?

she didnt even move so it must not have been too unpleasant for her...

Yeah, it's like he doesn't even have to try. My pet was from a petstore, so I wasn't too sure. I wish he'd tell you how hard to press, because I ended up pressing pretty hard, and pulling back on the butt flap. Nothing came out, I think he's a she.

It'd be cool because I should be getting another male tomorrow and could maybe bread them next year. :)

Haha, what a great thread to show up. I tried popping both of mine last night, and I was either doing it wrong or they're both girls. XD I -was- pretty sure they were males, but I'm going to let a professional probe them when I get the chance, just in case. :)

Yeah, it's so weird never doing it before because you really don't know. I'm just so afraid to hurt him, even though I thought I did it kinda hard.

If he is a girl, that'd suck, but at the same time (s)he would be great to pair with my male morph I'm receiving. (Years down the road, before I get flammed, i'm not going to keep them together, and QT is important.)

I havent tried to pop Little Dude and I don't plan on it. The breeder did it for me and showed me so I knew it was male, but even if he hadn't I would be afraid of hurting him or stressing him out. I have a local herp vet and Little Dude gets checkups so if for any reason I was unsure, I would just ask the vet to check.

I cant imagine probing is really that unpleasant for them. We have no idea how many nerves they have down there. I would venture its a pressure and awkward, but not so unpleasant that it hurts.
