What kind of boa for this tank size?

I've owned a corn snake for 8 years now, and I'm finally getting the itch to get another snake (I've been pacifying myself with eels). This time I want something with more mass to it, though.

I have space for a 3'x2' tank, and the height is not limited. I've been researching for about a month trying to find good options, but now I need some help. So far I know I can keep a ball python or a green tree python in a tank that size, but are there any boas?

I'm really attracted to the hog island boas due to their smaller size. Would a male be an option? I love the shapes of these heavier snakes.

Any other suggestions are welcome. I have a few more months of research to go, probably, before getting anything.

Have you thought about a Viper Boa ([I]Candoia aspera aspera)???

They are a very robust species, with a typical "arrow" shape to their heads & keeled scales..Gorgeous! - Only problem is, they are VERY hard to come by as C.B! :(

Another is the Soloman Island Boa (Candoia paulsoni paulsoni) - Which is very similar in appearance to the aspera!

Both are stunning....But where-as the aspera will be fine in that size enclosure into adulthood, the paulsoni will eventually need something larger!

Both are pretty much terrestrial (ground dwelling), so height will not really matter too much on the viv.

If you wanted something more arboreal, to make use of the height available....How about an amazon tree boa???

I'd say even a male Dumerils could live in a tank that size.

Maybe a young male, but I personally wouldn't go any smaller than 4'x2'x2' for an adult! ;)

You may want to take into account aggression and your handling abilities before looking at purchasing something like a green tree python. I have heard they can be very docile, and also very aggressive. Not trying to discourage you, but its more than just picking something that is the right size;)

Two smaller boas I am familiar with are the Hog Islands and the Peruvian long-taileds. Both of these species normally max out at around 6 feet long, which would be appropriate for a 3-foot long cage. I'm willing to bet they would like a good two feet of height as well. Also, you may want to research the Rainbow boas as well as the emerald tree boas, which are similar to the green tree pythons.

So D what are the recommended BCI-BCC stats? 1 ft. of cage per 2 ft of snake?

For that size tank.........I would get a Kenyan sand boa or two......make an artificial rock background...fill that tank with about 4-5" of sandish substrate......that would be wicked cool....

Rainbow boa sounds like a good one for that cage size and they aren't extremely hard to take care of either. With some good old-fashioned patience they can become quite handleable. I vote Rainbow!
