New Cockatiel, Buddy! Is He a She??
I just picked up this cockateil. His name is buddy! (that was his name before we got him) I don't think he is a boy, because boys are usually yellow or have yellow on their heads, does any one know if he is actually a she?

Hes hand-trained and sooooo friendly. He can say hello and pretty girl too! The previous owner found her one day as a baby. She was visiting a park and buddy flew in and landed on her head. They put out "found cockateil" signs, but no one ever claimed him. I had a cockateil for 7 years as a child. Thanx for looking!!

I believe boys have the orangey spots on their cheeks. Boy birds are the pretty birds, girls normally have duller colors

    Very nice bird too! :gj:

Shes a very light grey and her entire head is white. The female I had when I was younger had orange cheeks but no yellow (I know she was a girl, she laid eggs all the time)

My guess is he is a Beautiful tiel normal colored WF tiel!!!!

Well Im assuming he's a male, how old is he? if he keeps he's white face after his first/sencond molts then he is definitely a male. female whitefaced tiels will have a solid grey face.

my female cinnamon tiel still has a whiteface but it's because she is a heavy pearl, pied. she was DNA sexed and also she laid eggs. I also have a normal WF female tiel, her face is grey.

Sounds complex but it really isnt.

The WF mutations are my fave!

    good luck with him!

    PS
males are also the talkers & whistlers. females can do it a little but usually its the males! my cinny wf pearl pied girl wolf whistles, but thats about it. so if yours is talking and saying words, thats another good indicator that he's a boy!

Thanx for the info!! I looked at how some of the mutations work and I understand what your talking about somewhat lol. He is at least 2 years old, as he was found two years ago and he was not full grown yet when he was found.

Haha we just figured out he can say "dirty bird" haha, the owners told us he could but we hadn't heard it.
