    A few random questions!
    1. Where can I get this plexiglass to cover the mesh part of the tank and do i have to cut it myself?

    2. I haven't been able to find moss yet. I dont think I have any herp stores around, just basic pet stores. And doesn't moss help with humidity?

    3. I see a lot of you let your snakes loose outside. Im a bit afraid to do this. Do they not try to escape? Or are they too slow? I still havent let SLinky down anywhere.

When I had a tank, I covered the mesh top with aluminum foil and duct tape and that worked really well in keeping the humidity in. I will look to see if I can find the stick to show you how it is done.

I have never had to use moss to help with humidity, but you can also use damp paper towels for a humidity boost. I would just change the paper towels every day or so to keep from having bacteria grow on it.

Allowing your snakes outside loose but supervised I would think depends upon the type of snake. I would allow my ball pythons out, they are a bit slower. But when I had my cornsnake, I would never let it loose. It was way too fast and would have run off in a heartbeat!!

Let me go look for that link for you now about the aluminum foil cover. :)

You can find plexiglass at most places like Home Depot or Lowe's in a variety of sizes and thickness. Some places will cut it for you, some won't so phone ahead and ask.

The moss you are likely looking for is sphagnum moss in it's dry form. You should be able to find good sized bags of it at most any gardening center or major craft stores (I got mine at Michaels). You can mist it to help with humidity issues or create a humid hide but you don't want it sopping, dripping wet. Btw you want dry sphagnum moss not the sphagnum peat moss stuff. Here's what it looks like...

As far as taking your snake outdoors, it's your call. Just know that the risks with certain species of snake as far as escape are greater than others and consider things outside like mole holes they might get down, if the yard has been treated or sprayed for weeds, a wandering cat showing up, etc. Also any reaction the neighbours might have. I've taken snakes out for a bit of sunshine but I rarely let them out of my hands and I don't do that all that often anymore.

Never get complacent though and believe for a second that ball pythons are just always lazy and slow moving. I've seen some of ours book it faster than I ever thought I'd see a BP move. They've got the speed, believe me, they just don't show it most of the time.

    Thanks for the responses!

Do you just stick misted moss inside the hide? Just wondering since I tried that with wet paper towels and he wouldnt go anywhere near it lol.

As far as letting them outside, I would never leave him unattended... ever! I just see wonderful pictures and would like to take some myself and also let him explore some.. or sit and sunbathe lol whatever he wants.

    freeze the moss first.

i have a friend that got some moss, i guess forgot to freeze it and had alot of baby hog noses die from something, cause it grew mold, some sort of RI if i remember correct,

but yeah, when i introduced my balls to the moss i just stuck them in the hide and whatever, just dont put it on the hot side of the cage, cause that helps make mold =D
