underactive corn

i am a first time corn owner and i have had him/her for about 3 months now and at first he was very friendly and active, but recantly he has been almost always in his hide and hasnt't been very firendly. is there any reason for his change in behavior? just worried about him/her.

Is it eating fine for you? What are your temps? What size is his enclosure? Is he possibly going thru a shed cycle?

Aw, beat me to it!

Lots of things can affect behavior changes. If you moved them recently, or something changed in your house that can set them off as well. In order to help you get to the bottom of it, we need to know the specs of housing, feeding, and shedding. :)

he is in a 10 gal. tank. the temps are about 80 at the warm end and 70 at the cold end. he has been eating fine and he just shed two weeks ago. he couldn't be going througha a shed this quickly could he?

Also remember that when you first got your corn, it may have been very active because it was still settling in and nervous. Now it may have settled in..mine hide most of the time too. It seems like pretty normal baby behavior, unless your conditions aren't perfect.

Ok temps are fine :gj:.Ok should not be shedding this close again.Now is he hiding all the time? He might be out and about when your not at home ;).When you reach in for him are you doing it slowly? If not you might be scaring him and he does what instinct tells him to do.

Yep, sounds good to me. Being a baby corn, once they settle in they hide all day long...probably because they are small and wish to avoid 'predation'. My little 7 month old Anery hides in her coconut halves all day, then has a quick cruise around at night. If you aren't right there, you miss it. :)

Again, good (and fast) questions from Joe. Babies are extremely skittish and you have to move slower with them to teach them you aren't going to hurt them. After all, when raptors go for snakes, it's from above...

Best thing with the little ones is patience. If you can get them used to a nice slow hand to learn that being held is not a bad thing, they'll be sweethearts when they're bigger. If not, you end up with the two females I had and ended up trading or giving back to the breeder because they were so nasty. :)
