Re: Ball python question.
I wouldn't use any kind of sand.
I do however use newspaper with aspen sprinkled on top. :gj:

I tried this with my boa, using indented kraft paper and just a shallow bit of aspen. The problem I ran into was that I had to keep the Helix turned way up and then if the boa got under the paper somehow it would be way too hot!! I took out the paper and now just have aspen for her and that solved the problem. As for the balls, I only use indented kraft paper; this makes mornings like this one where 9 of them pee'd and/or poo'd much easier to deal with! :P

I got it from U-Line; here's the link: http://www.uline.com/Browse_Listing_...ed+Kraft+Paper
I buy it in the sheets because they fit well in my RBI cages (2x3) and if I cut them in half they fit well in my 32qt tubs! U-Line has very fast shipping as well. :gj:
Re: Ball python question.
I bought a giant bag of cypress mulch from Home Depot for about $3.50, and it has been working great. The bag is big enough that I can replace the bedding regularly without putting a dent in my wallet. Also, the cypress holds moisture beautifully, releases it slowly, and doesn't stay too wet. The only concern I have about it is that it isn't very soft, and some of the pieces of mulch are a little bit large.

Re: Ball python question.
We picked up some nice triple milled cypress, and it works wonderfully. Love it

Where are you all getting the Cyprus? I called Lowe's and Home Depot but they only have a 'blend' and the ingredients of the blend is not listed! I also called some gardening places and they don't have any either... maybe Oregon is just funny this way....
