    tub & hide question
I've decided to build my own hatcling rack. i would like to use the 12qt tubs that way the snakes could be in it a little longer until I have to make another the next size up. would they be ok for hatchings as long as they have hides on each side?

Also, what do you use for hatchling hides? I saw some really small water pot saucers today in walmart, they were about 4" in diameter and about 1 inch deep. Is that too small? I've never seen a hatchling personally just in pics but its still hard to visualize the size hide they would need.

What would you suggest for a nice snug hide? What about those coconut shells that are cut in 1/2?

    thanks! :)

those little flowper pot saucers work great, and they are inexpensive. just make sure it fits the tub.AND you can maybe even puta water dish ontop of it to save space (if you cant fit water on the floor) Just an idea.

Lowes sells larger plastic flower pot saucers that can be cut to make them smaller. They are like $1.19 or something.

Back in the day, I used to use plastic water bowls made for dogs. I'd cut a hole in the side of the bowl, and the snake could hide underneath and soak above. The water in the bowl above should give it enough weight to keep it on the floor. They come in lots of different sizes, though I don't know if there are any small enough for the tubs you're using.

In those days, soft-drink bottles usually had a black plastic boot on the bottom. We'd knock that off, cut a hole in the side and have a perfect hide for sm/med colubrids and little boids.
