Weird ball behavior?

Hi all!

It's been about 3 weeks since I've had my ball. He's a real sweetheart.But by everything I heard on their behavior mine's seems quite special...
He usually stays in his hide when he's in his terrarium, but as soon as I take him out (he seems afraid at first, but only when I wake him up) about everyday, he just doesn't stand still. He keeps on exploring like crazy and moving all around me. He usually end up going on my back, don't know why?
Do anyone of you guys have balls that love exploring and stuff or am I the only one?

It is likely he will settle down in a few more weeks and will "explore" until he is comfortable. I hope you did give him at least a week to settle in after bringing him home, because this usually calms them down and minimizes stress. My juvenile bp explored for about a month until he was truely settled in. Now he sits under his hide most of the time and when I take him out he just wraps around me and doesn't move much.

You may want to even cut down his handling to every other day and give him some time to get used to his new home. Handling to much can really stress them out. A good indication of whether or not he is stressed when you have him out is if he is breathing hard. You can tell this by observing his 'sides' on his upper body for a contaction/expansion repeatedly. The more intense it is, the more stressed he is. Hope this helps some, just my own experience.

My balls have different personalities. My spider is a nut and is always very outgoing relative to everyone else. The albino just sits and is very mellow. My normals are both very curious and slither into our shirts, armpits, across the table....much like the spider. A couple of the balls we take out only when it is dark and quiet because they are quite shy and appreciate their solitude. So, the longer you have your snake the more time you will have to understand its own unique personality. Have fun!!!

I don't think he's stressed. He's not moving much except when I take him out.He might just be really curious for a ball python? At first I thought he was special because he wasn't as everybody said : a lap snake.

He could just be a very curious and active bp, or he could still settle down. Most of the time my bp doesn't explore much but once in a while he does go on an adventure. If he becomes very innactive don't be concerned (since you know they can be very much like 'lap' dogs)

I bought my first BP recently, and noticed the heavy breathing during a handling session. Once I figured out that he doesn't ALWAYS breathe that way, I reduced my handling to about every third day. As time has passed he has been much more relaxed while being handled, and pretty much just wraps around my wrist and chills. It is hard to resist handling your new pet, but if you can do it and allow them to acclimate you and your new pet will both be better off for it.

mine usually just chills under his hide, but when i pull him out he will try and go everywhere. really enjoys trying to make his way over to our radiant heaters.
