sexing bps by size of thier tail?
I just seen a video on you tube and they said if your bp has a longer and skinnier tail its a male and if its real short and fat its a female.has anyone heard of this and is it true?
Re: sexing bps by size of thier tail?
Heard of it, yes - believe it? no not really.
I suppose if both animals were the same age, size and condition then you might be able to detect structural evidence of hemipenes or something - I couldn't but maybe someone can.
I'd rather get it confirmed by either popping or probing and leave the tail squinting for my corns.:P

My females are the exact opposite, they have long skinny tails, and have all been probed and sexed by vets as well.

Yeah- some smart-pants man came up with it! :8: Don't believe everything you read... Have you seen (8Ball) Adam's popping video? Or Jas' popping video? They can teach you how to pop, or pop, your snake reliably. :D

I've also heard of it being as saying males have smaller shorter heads. And females have longer ones.
Like said above, you may be able to spot a few. Or see a few that confirm the idea. But both ways is entirely inconclusive. And the animal should be probed for the most accurate diagnosis.
Sorry for the long post. But yes I've heard of this method.

Not always true :colbert:.In my opinion if it comes from youtube then its a lie .
Re: sexing bps by size of thier tail?
Well....you DO have a 50/50 chance of being right by sexing that way! ;)
Re: sexing bps by size of thier tail?
i always thought that females had longer, thin tails but i wouldnt trust it - i popped my two using the 8ball vid.
Re: sexing bps by size of thier tail?
Ralph Davis explains the poping technique in depth in his youtube channel. Be careful when poping if done incorrectly by just pressing down instead of rolling up the hemi you may confuse a male for a female, also explains how to properly hold the snake.
Re: sexing bps by size of thier tail?
Get really familiar with poping the snake, done right it can be very accurate, if not then either learn to probe or have them taken to a pro for sexing. but yeah, the tail thing is not very accurate since my big girls tail is smaller then the males and there exactly the same length, maybe 200-300 grams difference...
