    25% pied and the 75% normal appearing with all the normal appearing being 66% possible hets.

    Out of the normal looking off spring 50% of them will be 100% hets. The other 25% will be normals. All will look the same and will need to be proved out. None of the snakes are 66% het, they are either het or not. A lot of breeders use the term 66% het but they are not 66% het.

    Fatboy,

    If you work it out with a punnet square....hypothetically you should get...in a four egg clutch:

    1 homozygous animal
    1 normal
    2 normal appearing heterozygous animals

    so 2/3 normal appearing animals SHOULD be hets....66%...

    You are right however that the normal appearing offspring will prove either they are or are not heterozygous, but they are still 66%ers... Your odds if buying PH animals "should" be better when dealing with 66%ers.

    P p
    P PP Pp

    p Pp pp

    PP= Normal
    Pp= Het Pied
    pp= Homozygous Pied

    Hope this helps.

    The way I see it I would never buy or sell a PH. I want to know if they are het or not, if there is any question, they are normal. What I was trying to say is the eggs do not have a 66% chance of being het. The eggs have a 25% chance of being a visual, 25% chance of being normal, and 50% chance of being het.

    That's why they're sold as POSSIBLE hets....personally its a great economical way to start a recessive project... I have 4 VERY hopeful female PH pieds...markers to boot...there's always going to be a market for PHs...:gj:

    Yes, but the 66% refers to the fact that of the 75% that are not visual, they have a 66% chance of being het. Yes, once proven, they are hets, but until they are, they mathematically have a 2-in-3 chance of being het, which aren't bad odds for breeders with space and a visual morph to pair them with.

    I did say 66% POSSIBLE het pied. Meaning that out of a four egg clutch, statistically, 1 would be pied, 3 would be normal appearing, and of those three, 2 or 66% of them THEORETICALLY would be 100% het - thus the 66% possible.
