    Bugs Please Help!
Ok, I took Vinny out today because my girlfriend said she saw something in his water dish today. I only found one, but there was a bug crawling on him!!!! AHHH!!! The vet said he didn't have anything, but I saw this today. This was real hard to get a picture of, so i'm going to upload the big picture. Does anyone have an idea of what this could be? I killed it, but I saved it.

Please help! I'll take him to the vet tomorrow if I need to, I may take it up to the emergency vet to see what kind of bug it is.

Again, I only found 1 of them, and it was on him!!

I'msure you can see it, but it's on his lighter color scale that you can see.

Ok, after reading, it's does look like it's a mite, but i've only seen 1 so far, and it wasn't on his face.

POM is only available online and it doesn't look like they overnight.. how long till i need to be worried if it doesn't come in quickly?

Edit: I seem to have the only picture ever taken of a mite? on a snake.

Can no one confirm this for me?

It looks like a tick to me, not a mite. A mite is almost microscopic, not nearly the size of 1/2 a scale.

    Provent-A-Mite treats both:

Sure looks like a tick to me as well.

    Was it an import?

I found something very similar in size and color on my bp about a month ago so i cleaned his enclosure properly and changed his substrate. I have ordered a can of PAM just incase for the furture, but I have not seen another bug like the one I found a month ago since. It was quite large, 6 legged, black. If it was a tick will PAM kill any remaining and it is likely I may find more?

I was about to ask the same question. My snake has been chilling in his water bowl the past two mornings when I wake up. I thought they did this for mites...

They do that for ticks as well? It's not my humidity it's at 60-70%. I found another while I was holding him to soak him, but nothing came out in the water bowl. I wish I had a bigger picture of it, but that's all I have.

Are ticks as hard to kill as mites? I know big ticks, on people, are very hard to get off, short of a match and some nail polish.

You have to remember though, my snake is 22" long and only 130g. So that bug is pretty tiny.

Think about it - it's uncomfortable/itchy with ticks on you - you feel them crawling on you. You have no arms and legs - so you do the only thing you can - soak in hopes of drowning them.

Provent-A-Mite when used as labeled will get rid of mites and ticks. To be safe, I'd retreat in 30 days.

it's a tick. Remove the one's you see, then just like everyone else said, treat the enclosure. Provent a Mite is great for spraying the enclosure. Follow the directions though.

Ok.. I understand it's very important to get rid of them. But he's gonna be alright while I wait for snail mail to get it to me right? I've actually cleaned and disinfected his enclosure, and i'm putting in newspaper instead of aspen until I can get the POM.

He'll be fine - I ordered mine recently and had it in 2 business days (I ordered early in the am and it shipped the same day from Pro-products).
