No, you can buy a regular computer fan and it should come with 2 wires a red and black.

Than find some sort of plug with the 2 wires coming out the back. Not sure if you can buy them or you might just have to ruin an old extension cord.

Then you just match the wires and plug it in.

you can use a cell phone charger, or find the plug into the wall for something thats 12v like the plug for computer speakers. Check on the back it should say output: 12v. make sure its 12v tho or it wont run right.

The fan should say on the front what the voltage is and how many amps. It's prbably 0.11 - 0.17. You can go to one of these sites and order the correct 12v DC wall adapter, then just run the red to red and black to black.

    Heavy Duty 12VDC 500ma Adapter.

    does that mean .5 amps?

All the fans are in decimals, such as .07 amps but all the DC power plugs are in mA such as 400mA.

The fan i want is .07A so what is that in mA 700mA?

So I have been looking at a few fans. Seems that they are three wires. Is the third wire (yellow, white, blue) be a remote. If so do you just twist it with the red.

DO NOT USE A HOME MADE PLUG FROM THE WALL TO RUN YOUR COMPUTER FAN.

Not trying to call you out brimstone, but this is one of the worst ideas ever.

AGAIN, DO NOT DO THIS, YOU WILL EITHER A) CATCH YOUR HOUSE ON FIRE or B) SPIN THE FAN SO FAST IT FLIES OUT AND DESTROYS SOMETHING. BOTH ARE LIKELY.

You can actually buy a transformer using the correct voltage and wire the fan into that.

An alternative is to use an AC fan that can be found at Radio Shack, but it's a little pricey. You can wire these up directly to a standard power cord.
