    Pink Belly-BP
My bp shed about 3 weeks ago and his belly is looking pink. Hes also got a shine to him. Hes not darkened or in blue, do you think this is the start of another shed? How often do juvenile bp's shed on average?

He is 4 months old and 111 grams. His belly isn't uniform pink, it is a little darker pink near his vent. He had a vet visit a month ago just before his last shed.

i'm going through the same thing. I thought it could be belly rot so I changed the substrate to newspaper and placed neosporin on the belly. its beginning to clear up.

ps I would have taken my snake to the vet but he is not available until later this week. i already set up an appointment. better safe then sorry.

well I really dont want to make a second vet trip this month unless I have to (starts to add up in bills:() So I was hoping others had advice on how often he should shed.

It could be a couple things.

Maybe he might be going into another shed. I had a baby that would shed every 3-4 weeks. Also, some babies just have a slight pink hue to their bellies because they are still young, and that's their insides up against a white belly.

Post a pic of it though.

okay, well i'm not expert but i'll throw in my 2 cents.

What kind of substrate do you use?

Whatever it is change it to newspaper and make sure to change the water regulary and take out the newspaper once its been soiled.

Keep an eye on the belly. If it continues to get worse and no shed occurs, you may have to make a trip to the vet.

I don't want to worry you. The shed process takes a while so it could be pink for a while. I don't think there is any limit on how often a snake sheds. If you haven't had any eating problems I'm sure it would shed often since its young and growing.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I tried and his shiny belly just reflects the light really bad so you can't see the pink. It isn't red, it is just a light pink that is darker near his vent and he is still white near his head. If baby bp's shed about once a month then I'm not worried yet, but I don't know if thats how often they shed.

He also just ate two days ago and the slight bulge near his vent is the pinkest part. I just upped his meal size. He has never had a pink belly before. He's gaining weight nicely. He was 78 grams a week ago and tonight he's 111 grams.

and I use cypress mulch which was was put in there 2 weeks ago and his only poop/urine/urate pass was in the tub, not his enclosure.

My 500 gramers shed about once a month. I wouldn't be too worried yet. He's probably just growing fast.
