    asf and beckys rat mix
I am a believer in beckys mix for both my mice and rats...

I am giving my ASF's the same thing... and some wild bird seed, millet, and carrots.

My question is, my ASF's seem to be picking out every piece of dog food, and just dropping it outside of the bowl. I don't think they are eating it at all. Is this normal? should I just leave the dog food out of their mix? Isn't that going to screw up their nutrition and hurt their reproduction numbers?

I am still a new bee to ASF's... only had them for a week so far. I have 2 10 gallon tanks each with 1.2 in them. and a 20 long with 1.3 I bought them pretty young. they have all already almost doubled in size.... just trying to give as much info as possible!

    thanks,

    Mike

That's not good. Eating what tastes good and leaving what they dont like out. You may have to resort to lab block and use the others as just a supplement once every few days. You dont want to encourage picking through the mix. For that reason I really dont like mixes so much. I rather give them a cup every few days of some goodies I know they will eat. And I never give my rats anymore than they can finish in a day if they eat from a bowl.

I found that too so I switch out the dog kibble for a good quality cat kibble instead. I think the ASF's do better and can handle the tiny cat kibble easier than the dog kibble so they tend to munch it right down. :) They seem to be able to handle the different protein, etc. levels of cat kibble just fine. Mine are all fat, sassy, have lovely coats and are popping out litters like clockwork. :)

really? that suprises me. what brand of cat kibble do you use? the local feed store does cary mazuri tho.... 50 lb bag for 21 dollars. I will have to add things up, but i think that might be more cost effective than the mix. anybody do the math on this yet?

what are the pros and cons for beckys rat mix, millet, carrots, wild bird seed VS Mazuri?
