got my first bite

I was checking on all the snakes tonight, filling water bowls, exc and I have been saying Dash (The new male mojave) would be the first one to bite me... Hes very nervous and is always in "strike" mode.. i was right! Tonight I peeked in at him, thought to myself "hes gonna bite me" and still reached in without covering his head.. call me a gluten for punishment little booger (all 200g of him) struck out and got me. not good enough to post a pic, just a couple blood spots on my knuckles but it certainly surprised me!!

lol, yeah, no matter how many times you get bitten, it always surprises you!

lol.. the kicker is, during my speech this past week someone asked me "have you ever been bitten" i answered with "no, im smart about them but im sure its like riding horses, the more you fall off the better rider you become" so either im really stupid or im getting better :gj: lol.. little booger hehehe, i laughed

I'm not looking forward to the day that I join that club! Definately not a membership I'm seeking!! I just hope that when/if it does happen, it's quick and painless! LOL

And for the record, I've done that too...thought to myself, "Gee, he sure does look like he's gonna bite me..." and then reached my hand in anyway. And then jumped like a loon when they actually bit.

I actually cried the first time I got bitten, I was having a really bad day, it was during one of my emotional teenager phases, and my very first BP nailed me one night after he ate and I bawled-"My baby BIT ME!" I felt so betrayed. :rofl::rofl::rofl:

It does happen but remember sometimes that bite can harm them more than you if you pull back and they rip out a tooth (they grow back of course but why lose one if they don't need to I figure).

When I have one in that "I'm gonna bite you" attitude I usually just give them a lite spritz from the water bottle or use Adam's trick of a nudge from the base of that same small plastic bottle. It tends to snap them out of their fixation on me long enough for me to either do what I needed to do or get them out and into a safe handling situation.

With the big adults I've resorted to using a spare big hide or even the lid of their enclosure to physically block a potential strike if the water spritz/tap isn't getting my point across to them. There's no way in hades I want Brannagh latching on to me. :O
