    squirrel food for rats/mice?
i was at walmart yesterday and decided to see what they have for rodent food. i noticed a 10lb bag of squirrel food for $7. i believe the fat was 18% and the protein was 12% or i could have those numbers mixed up. it looks like normal mouse and rat food and the only difference i could see was there is no cat food like niblets in it but there is shelled peanuts.

would it be ok to use this along with dog food for my mice and rats? i toss some dog food in the cages every couple of days and its always the first thing to go so i guess they like it.

I personally wouldnt use it, generic rat food is bad enough, I can't imagine a generic brand of squirrel food would be nutritionally complete as a good rat food.

The major difference I have to point out is that squirrels are wild and do not rely on this brand of food as their main diet. They have the option of foraging and getting a complete diet. Rat's can only eat what you give them. And rats don't need anywhere close to that much fat. 5-8 % is ideal.

It's just something for squirrels to get fat on. :/
