She/He is a het!

Well it turns out my little surprise is het for albino! Woot for surprises! Hubby "forgot" to tell me. Personally I think he was just saving it for another fight, so he could be all, "Hey honey, our BCI is het for albino!"

So, nifty...is albino a recessive trait in boas as well? Would you breed an albino to a het to get albinos or would you breed two hets together?

i would breed the albino to it. but you can also go the het way.

If you bred it to an albino, you would get 50% hets, and 50% albinos.

If you bred it to another het, you would get 25% albinos, 50% hets and 25% normals. So you would end up with 75% of them being 66% het for albino. Jeff Ronne published something a while back about being able to tell hets from non-hets by looking at their eyes, however there is no guarantee with this, especially if you don't really know what you are looking for.

Yes, albinism is a recessive trait in boas as well. In fact, I am pretty sure it is recessive for everything. Whether you are going to breed it to an albino or another het is probably more dependent on your wallet than anything else. It would be a lot easier to breed it to an albino (as you would get more albinos percentage wise, and your hets would be 100% instead of 66%). However, hets obviously are a lot cheaper.
