    Pros/cons on adopting 1st BP?
    Hello, fellow herp fans.

After saving for months, my son is ready to purchase his first BP. We would like to avoid the pet shop route. We haven't yet found any breeders in Western North Carolina (but I hope my posts change that!). In the meantime, we've found a family who wishes to sell us their BP.

We're told they're moving, wish to sell snake and equipment, and that the several-months old snake eats and sheds well, and has been handled a lot.

What else should we ask? Tips? Pros & cons?

    Thanks so much, mom2herpboys :weirdface

    Pros:

You get the whole setup, and a snake that should be comfortable in its environment.

You get to talk to the previous owner about what the care/personality was when they had it.

You get a cool snake for a cheaper price than the pet stores.

    Cons:

You may get something you were not prepared for, aka sick snake, malnurished snake, extra care snake, stressed out snake, etc...

You may be given something completely incorrect as a setup, and have to start out again buying all new supplies, etc..

There is more, but it is lunch time, and I'm about to dash. You get the idea...

Ask them if you can see the snake eat, usually, but not always, if the snake eats its happy and probably healthy.
Find out what they keep temps and humidity at.
