:8:Wow...so are you even gonna bother bursting their bubble and informing them of corn's dietary needs?

...or any snakes for that matter?

Botanically speaking, corn is a caryopsis, or dry fruit — popularly known as a grain. ;)

Sometimes it disturbs me how uneducated people are. This is simple stuff! This is stuff that kids should be learning in first or second grade... what kind of eductional system do we have that people---grown adults!---don't know that snakes are carnivores?

Nah, let's pay the football player five million for a year, and the teacher $28,000. :P Who cares if the masses are ultimately uneducated? We'll just ply them with sports (the Romans tried it and it worked, why not us?).

Sorry, my venting for the day...

I've always boycotted pro sports for that reason. So you can catch and run with a ball, or throw a ball in a hoop. I know a bunch of kids who can ball. Show me a bunch of pro athletes who understand 10th grade algebra. They're child's games. They should be making $40k a year. That's better than anyone else with their sophisticated level of intelligence makes, so we wouldn't be short on players.

My uncle, a highly educated and intelligent man, asked me if snakes have blood... Granted he's in no way an animal person, but just goes to show you how little the general public are familiar with snakes (and herps in general).

I'm so glad that my parents and family taught me all about wildlife and animals when I was very little. Also glad they got me hooked on watching all those nature shows, etc. I learned so much!

Most of what I have learned about animals is really self-taught... I was an animal freak when I was kid, could tell you genus, species, diet, how they reared their young, everything. I still have a lot of random knowledge that I like to rack up.

I guess I should say that the education in America really needs to be more well-rounded. Really, what DO we learn in school except basic math and how to read (if you're lucky)? Everything else is social skills, which, don't get me wrong, are incredibly important... but some unlucky kids don't even get those :(
