JCP mucus question
Hi all, I've been searching and having fun on the forums for the past few months and have a question I cant seem to find an answer to. My JCP is three years old and has been doing very well, never missed a meal, and hasn't been acting abnormal. My question is, is it normal for snakes, or perhaps JCP's in general to produce mucus? I know that it can be a sign of a RI, but she doesn't have any excess running out of her nose, or wheezing, or any of that. I just noticed yesterday after she had eaten, she rubbed her nose against the side of her tank and left a trail along the glass, and kinda got me worried. Other than that, she shows no signs of RI. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: JCP mucus question
That's some pretty typical URI behavior... bump up her temps and humidity and get her to a qualified herp vet.

Re: JCP mucus question
herp vets a great idea of course but i will say that they salivate excessively during and after feeding... you ever seen a rat after it gets dropped? its soaked in saliva!

Re: JCP mucus question
Check up at the vet today went great! Couldn't see any signs of URI, she was breathing very well, and said that he didn't see any reason to bring home any medication. So, I'm moving her enclosure (which was near a window), and bumping up the temps 5 degrees or so, and watch really closely the next couple weeks.
It may have been saliva, you are very correct in saying they salivate a lot during feeding, haha.
Thanks everyone for your help!

Re: JCP mucus question
Yes, it could be from eating. Our JCP always drops his meal in his water w/out fail. My husband claims it's my fault for putting the rat too close to the water dish or in his tree. Next time, I'll put it in the furthest corner and test his theory.
Anyway, glad to hear he is OK. I bet you feel relieved! Why don't you post a picture of him?
