Waiting or not

Hey, I can get a ball python either now or in 4 months when we move into our new house (late June). where i will have a room just for for my reptiles. and i was wondering if u guys could help me decide when to get it based on these pros and cons of both.

pros of getting it now.
-i get to get now woo-hoo:banana:

cons of getting it now
-i am short on cash and would have to dip into savings
-the snake might be stressed by the move in four months.
-we r going on vaca twice in that time

pros of getting it later
-I would have a stress free herp room
-snake wont be stressed by the move
- will be able to get a younger snake (maybe, tell me if im
right on that one)

Cons of getting it later
-i have to wait 4 more long snakeless months:tears:

Sounds like you kinda answered your own question.

You may be snakeless for a couple more months, but the stress saved by both you and the prospective snake should be worth it.

You can live vicariously thru other people until then :gj:

Another plus of waiting is you have oodles of time to set up and test the home for your new guy (or gal) to make sure everything is working perfectly before they move in. :gj:

Like Heather and Derek said; good advice. Wait and get things set up and stabilized. Between that and your vacations and move, the time ought to fly by!!

Four months is a long time.....to learn more about snakes. Well, that is if you don't know anything about them.

Just think of all the time you might put into getting your enclosures set up in your current location only to have to do it again when you move. Well, you might have to do it again.

When you go on vacation, would anybody be able to keep an eye on your snakes? If not, I would worry the entire time that maybe the power has gone out or the thermostat has gone on the blitz. I wouldn't be able to enjoy myself.

I could think of many other reasons why to wait but I won't bore you anymore.

I vote for waiting.

Waiting can be a little crazy, but the snakes health and well being needs to be first priority.

My wife and I are currently waiting for the weather to improve so we can get 2 snakes we already paid for shipped to us. I hate having the breeders continue to take care of our snakes, but they are experts and I am sure our snakes our getting the proper care. I just hope we are not annoying the heck out of them.

On a positive note I was on a job in North Carolina and on the way back from the job I stopped at Ralph Davis's and picked up a 2006 Double Het VPI Snow male. He has great blushing and even though he is a normal he still seems to have a slightly reduced yellow compared to our other normal. My wife is also talking with Tracy Barker at VPI and probably going to buy a female Het VPI axanthic today. Only thing is she will be coming from Texas, so we will be playing the weather waiting game again.

My opinion would be to wait. i just recently got a BP and have never had a snake like this before and he/she was pretty stressed for the first week. But everything is good now about to have my first shed! :banana:
