How often should my snake shed?!
I jst got a yearling ball and am very new to owning any type of snake but i think its gettin ready to shed the snakes eyes look real cloudy looking.... What humidity should the tank be during the shedding process? And should i use a spray bottle to help?
Re: How often should my snake shed?!
Congratulations on your new snake! :)
You can bump the humidity up to around 70% while he's shed. A light misting or placing a wet paper towel or wash cloth in his cage should be enough to bump the humidity, but you might have to mist daily if you use a lamp to heat his cage.
Other than that, just leave him alone and let him do his thing. Oh, and to answer the question on the thread title... the shedding frequency depends on a number of factors including growth rate, quantity/size of feedings, etc. However, if your snake is eating an appropriate sized meal weekly you can expect a shed every 1-2 months.
Good luck!
Re: How often should my snake shed?!
well i wasnt sure if he/she was going to eat because of not knowing about the shed cycle but it actually ate again last night im feeding it frozen fuzzy mice right now once every 5 days.
And i just noticed this morning that his/her eyes are getting that cloudy look to them so i figured that its starting its shed cycle but im hoping for a good shed. Thanks for the help!

You're welcome! :)
Here's a link to a great article on the entire shed process if you're interested in learning more.

For a yearling ball python fuzzies are too small. I would up prey size to adult mice.

I agree! My bp was 140-ish grams when we got her and we upped her prey from pinkies every two weeks (as the store was feeding her) to fuzzies and I was also told to feed her larger prey. We now feed small adult mice and she has no problem with them at all. I've seen a pretty good increase in size since then also.
