Locking pins for tub racks?

I recently finished a new tub rack, heating with flex and a herpstat. Environmental conditions are spot on. I have a female ready to move into a bigger tub but am still trying to figure out a locking system so she and the other new babies don't push the tubs out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Toby, check out the locking pins and the way that we use them here. At the bottom of this link is a close up view of the locking pin.

You can buy small woodden dowels to use as locking pins. Just drill a hole about halfway through the bottom of each shelf that the dowel can sit in and will stick out of, you should be able to pull the pin easily in and out. This will prevent the tubs from sliding forward at all, and hence keep your little ones in.

And, for anyone as dumb as I am, should you forget all about locking systems while building and then realise the shelf space is too small to fit their drill into to use this system;

Seems to be working well so far and I can't lose the stops as they are screwed in via two flat and one spring washer. They may slacken off as time passes however but I hope a few turns of the screwdriver will correct that. :please:

The stops are the small plastic corner blocks used to strengthen wobbly furniture ( i.e everything else I've built :P ).

I've always liked the hanging tabs for locks. take a piece of metal, (iron or aluminum, doesn't matter) About 1/2 inch wide by 1-1/2 inches long and drill a hole through one end. Screw it into the shelf above the tub so that it hangs down in front of the tubs lip. You can still pull the drawer out with one hand just by pushing the tab sideways, but it blocks the tub from being opened without doing that. This way, your locking mechanism is permanently attached to the rack and you can't lose it.

thanks all...I like the drop down idea, but my tub lid lips stick out a tiny bit, i'm not sure if I can get that to work. New kids are coming next weekend so I'll get this figured out in the next few days.

It the lip sticks out a bit, and you like that idea you could try using some washers or a bolt as a spacer :)

*edit* a nut, not a bolt.
