Does anyone know how to raise the GH of my water without throwing off the KH or PH?

I recently started a 55 gallon cichlid tank and while everythign is spot on my GH is registering at 0. WHat can I do to raise the Gh without throwing the rest out of wack!?

there are a lot of commercial additives that will do this.

the home brew method of adding baking soda will unfortunately raise both GH and KH - and KH affects PH.

I use Kent Cichlid Chemistry for GH (and Kent Cichlid Buffer for KH.)

If your GH really is zero, you may find that any changes will affect everything simply because with no GH the overall chemistry is like a house of cards.

You might try taking out a bucket of water and experimenting on that before making changes to the tank itself.

oh, and CHECK the expiration date on your GH tester. They do go bad and I have tried expired ones myself and they register extremely low.

i've been gifted with perfect african cichlid water, but theres a website. cichlid-forum that has awesome info on it. lots of help and great articles with everything you could need to know.

this one is on altering your water chemistry with homemade buffer

but as suggested above, test everything out in a bucket first. and if your using the dip-strip tests, invest in the liquid drops
