    Exo-terra under tank heater
    Hi,

I bought my friends Exo-terra 20gal and I need an UTH and the seller told me I would be okay with the Exo-terra Heat wave desert and that it was all it needed. So my question is : are they self regulated at 90°? (to know if I need a thermostat)

If anyone owns them tell me their temps.
Also if someone owns a Heat wave rain-forest tell me if you need to regulate the temps.
    Thanks,
    Fred.

I believe that's the brand of my under tank heater and it's DEFINITELY NOT regulated at 90. I use a rheostat on the setting just above low and it keeps it at exactly 93. I would recommend either a rheostat like I'm using now or a thermostat which I will be upgrading too soon. Hope my little $0.02 worth was helpful.

No it's not regulated to 90, It can actually hit 115-120 with ease and quickly do damage to your snake, Grab a rheostat for 21.99 and you should be OK until you can do more research on them and get some more extra money to upgrade

I have an exo-terra under tank heater and when i first got it I stuck a termometer on it and it didnt go ove 90. After about 3 days though it sky-rocketed to 110+ so that was no good. I bought a lamp dimmer from Canadian Tire for 10 bux and I keep the thermometer on the bottom of the tank attached to the glass where the UTH is so I can make sure it doesnt get too high. With the dimmer up around 1/3 it keeps the temp around 88.

I have one of each. One 3"x4" desert on my cool side and a 8"x8" (around there) rainforest on my warm side. My small one spikes to 104 and the large goes to 120 without regulation. I have $10 lamp dimmers from Walmart on both to keep them the right temps.
