Pre-Blue Funk?

I have noticed that for about a week before even the slightest signs of blue, my male BP acts particularly withdrawn. Just wondering if this is typical or not...

Yes, some will do that. Shedding is a lot longer of a cycle then just turning blue, clearing up and then sloughing. Often you can notice that their colors turn a bit dull or their belly's turn pink before they actually turn blue, and a lot of times they will get sluggish. It depends on the individual, but often if you notice an activity change, it'll be during a shed cycle.
