    Suggestion for the snake ban.
Well I was thinking, about this whole snake ban, and thought of of idea so that everyone can get the word out. I thought what if everyone called into their local news station and suggest that they should tell a story about this whole snake ban, and how it would affect our hobby, and some peoples lives. But thats just an idea I thought of today. Please feel free to discuss about this, I personally think its a great idea...

    Thanks
    Mitch.

No this issue doesn't need to have the appearance of a small group of people getting up set. There are people working on it and dealing with law makers a large group of major company's and big people and not just breeders. If you want to help write the letters call your representative's but please at the risk of bringing this in a public media like the news could be more harm than good.

It was a good idea but the chance for harm is greater than that of the good..

I dont see that as a bad idea, although you may have to think abut how the news and the general person see's reptiles. Most people who are uneducated about snakes wont care and may even welcome the idea of the ban. So there could be good and bad from sharing with the news outlets.

Exactly Please lets not start having the news involved. As was said we are th minority here and if it is brought to the public eye we may be facing a great opposition than just the small bit of the government we currently are

No news...they blow everything so out of proportion. The news would prolly hurt us more than it helped.

I agree, Im just now starting to expand my collection, i really dont want to have that much opposition and that much attention brought to the ban. It could be devastating to our defense if uneducated public joins in

Just to point out... Mitch is from Canada, and he could be referring mainly to the proposed bans in BC which have been made by the local SPCA there. Those bans are based entirely on speculation and essentially attacking the herp community stating it's not "socially acceptable" - word for word from their proposal - for us to keep these animals.

I think the problem with the news is you never know HOW its gonna be presented and they could scare the crap out of people(gets better ratings) like the next pitbullmania. Contacting governments orgs with petitions, letters and more than anything educate them will help direct this into safer waters. What people don't know usually scares the hell out of them.:O

Fish and Wildlife has already stated they will only be taking into account letters and statements submitted through their mailing address and online form submission. They will be taking into account no other forms of communication regarding the subject. So going on a media campaign would likely do more harm than good.
