Leave the shedding skin inside for at least two days

Whats the reason for this..??

I'm not really sure why one would do this. A lot of time when the snakes shed, they also poop. Fresh sheds have, for me anyways, a strong smell and snake poop doesn't smell good either. I'd rather clean all that up as soon as I see it than have the snake slithering through it and also stinking up my snake room.

Was the article referring to snakes? lizards? All reptiles?

I know some lizards eat their shed, which probably helps them recycle important nutrients. So I could understand an article that recommends leaving any uneaten shed in a lizard's enclosure, to give them a chance to eat it.

I can't think of a reason why you'd do it with snakes.

The only reason I do it for snakes is to promote breeding other than that I can think of no reason to leave it in with them. To me it looks unclean and very unprofessional to open a tub and have a load of skin in with them.

Thats what I was gonna say. Sheds contain lots of pheramones(spell check that) which can play into breeding behavior.

My corn snake shed one day while I was at work and when I got home he had crawled back into his shed backwards it was weird shoulda got a pic but I wasn't thinking.

I had an incident today with a shed, I read about inducing breeding behaviour by moving an old shed from a breeding pair's cage to another where there is no breeding activity. The scent of the breeding snake's shed might give a hint to the non breeding ones.

I took a little bit of old shed from a cage I have seen many locks this winter and placed it into another cage today. Now it's midnight and my piebald female and het male are almost banging the cage walls! :banana:

I don't know if the shed had anything to do with it, it could have happened anyway, but I'm not complaining! I had'nt seen a single lock with the pied all year and now they're doing it! :D
