crested question

I have a sub-adult male crested gecko that I recently purchased from LLLReptile. I have had him a little over a week and he has yet to touch the cgd(only make a 4th of a teaspoon) or any crix I offer. I have tried crix 2x and they are not to big for him. I tried feeding in the enclousre and out in a feeding box since trying to catch crix in his cage is a pain. Could I mix a little bit of baby food into the diet just to get him interested in it? He is getting a little skinny compared to when I got him that is what is worrying me to. I have a female in the same set up seperate from him and she is eating just fine attacking the crix no matter where I feed.

If your enclosure is too big he could have issue finding his food.

I emailed lllreptile and they were just feeding cgd with tropical baby food in it and no crix so I am goign to try that.

Crickets are easier to catch if you put them in some kind of dish with high edges. The crickets can't get out but the gecko can get in. I've used flower pots. :)

If you have to mix in baby food to get him to eat the cgd you should wean him of it as soon as possible. It adds too much sugar to their diet which is not healthy and throws off the balance of the cgd.

What kind of setup do you have him in? It may be too big for him and too hard for him to find food. If it is difficult for him to catch crickets you definitely need to feed them from a dish or something they can't get out of.

I would also highly recommend having a fecal done--he shouldn't be getting noticeably thin after only a week of no food.

He is 6-7 inches total length in a exo-terra 18x18x18 cage. It has branches, trees, and such to climb and hide in. Has a bowl of water wtih misting daily (2x) and a waterfall, plus a bowl of cgd every night and tried giving him some worms last night (phoenix worms small) and he ate them. I feed ihm the crix in a critter keeper so that he can find them without having to worry about the cage being to big. The critter keeper has some greenery in it also and a hide so it feels more like home. I had a vet check done 2 days after i got him since he was just shipped in and he had a clear check-up. LLL Reptile where I ordered him from said they were using mango baby food mixed with the cgd but never mentioned crix in his diet so not sure if he was even getting them before now.
