    burns, safety
If you've heard it once you've heard it a thousand times.....KEEP and eye on your snakes....

this handsome gentleman is a recent rescue....
the person we got him from was the actual rescuer and housed him for over a year.....

previous owners kept temps at over 100 degrees and 2 (yes 2) heat rocks in his cage....they stated that he scratched himself trying to escape...two others were in the same cage, they didn't make it...

I have to say this guy is a MONSTER, making my breeding fems look like teens...he's a COMPLETE sweetheart, very friendly...

I'd like this to be a reminder to new keepers (and remind the old) to take extra special care in keeping a snake....to imagine the pain this guy went through *sighs*...when it could have been avoided with a little education...

Scar will, I'm sure, continue to be forgiving and enjoy our company....i am constantly reminded how beautiful snakes are by his demeanor, his gentleness and of course his lesson

That doesn't look like a burn. That looks like rat bites or a lot of rubbing....

Could be as I don't know the entire history of this guy.....but it's only on his back, along his spine....over two thirds of the snake...

i would not think a rat could do this.....point is, this should not have happened, regardless....i can understand a bite...but this is over most of his body and could have been prevented....

just a reminder some that keeping snakes takes more than just having a "cool pet" :)

So would I!! I am so happy he is here...we just got him today....and even after all he's been through, he ate and settled in nicely....even sat with me calmly in my lap while his enclosure was being prepared....

personally, I would be pissed...he's simply outstanding :)

That's ashame that something like this happens to such a beautiful animal due to ignorance and being irresponsible. Ugh. It does seem like he is in good care now though and it's great to hear that you stepped up to the plate.

Question... are his scales missing all along down his spine? Or are they just rubbed/dulled to the point you can't make them out?

I have seen it before, done by a rat. Given enough time, and a scared snake, a rat can ABSOLUTELY do that.
