My strange scenario

Alright, so I tried breeding last season. I got my two love birds to lock up quite a few times in may (I know, a bit late) Anyway, I had pretty much written off the possibility of eggs after like november, but my girl stopped eating suddenly in the middle of december (Which is very odd, because she never misses a meal, even when I cooled down the tanks last year) and she went into a shed after not eating for about a month.

She has shed now, and still won't eat. Other than not eating, she acts healthy. I need some experienced opinions. Should I be putting together an incubator or taking her into the vet?:confused:

When were they last placed together and when was their last lock up date?

They are together currently, they've shared a tank ever since I gave up on breeding them, which explains their late breeding incident (their previous owner requested I house them together) The last lock I saw was probably in the first week of June.

Honestly, I only bred them to graduate high school. Not that I wouldn't be the proud foster parent to a batch of baby pythons; I love my snakes.

I would really recommend that you not house them together - I don't think it's the previous owner's call any longer - it's your call, and there's no benefit to housing them together.

As to you other questions, I'll let someone more experienced address them.

I know about the contraversy and cons around housing balls together, but I don't wish to go there here and now. No offense. Thanks for your concern anyhow.

Well, as for the incubator thing, I think you may need to invest in it. You bred them early, and although there is not promising eggs, it sounds to me like you have had some activity, and should act accordingly.

Ball Pythons are not like puppies and kitties and do not need the companionship of other animals to be happy and healthy. If anything, it is more of a risk to keep them together. They can dominate each other and throw each other off a feeding schedule. There is a risk of disease spreading, stress, ect. Its best to house them apart from one another unless breeding intentionally.

yes... ball pythons do cannibalize too, i've seen it, so don't put your balls in one basket, if one eats the other they both die
