How often to feed 3 year old BP
I am feeding appropriatly sized rats and have been doing so once a week. Now my 3 (maybe 2 1/2) year old who has always been the least aggressive feeder has stopped feeding going on 3 weeks. While i know this is probably normal i am now wondering how often i should be feeding
    Thanks to all who reply

i think it pretty much depends on the size of the meal. an adult eating the right size food i feed closer to 10-12 days just because it takes longer to digest. you know also if she isnt eating you shouldnt handle her for about another week while making sure all conditions are right on before you attempt to feed her again. also try feeding her something smaller than normal. hope she takes down her next meal :gj:

Ok, it has been a month now and he seems fine but still not ewating my husbandry from what I can tell is right on.He moves around at night is very alert and is decently fat looking. One thing i think maybe i should mention is that i got this snake when he was about 2 1/2 years old from someone whos son no longer took care of it he was in good shape a little dry but overall decent care was taken, but he did eat live rats at that time. I imediatly started working toward f/t rats. He has been eating them for over a year now but has almost always required i dance it around for him.
    SO THE REAL QUESTION IS
When should I try to revert back to live feeding?

Also is it possble that he wouldnt eat them due to the fact that the rats are from a differant sounce (rodent pro) He has eaten about 2 of them before he quit eating

It's deffinately not that the rat is from a different source since you said he ate 2 from them. What size rats are you feeding him and how big is he? Depending on the size rat you might want to try a smaller rat. Leave him alone for a week with good temps and humidity then try feeding him (shaking/dancing the rat). If he doesnt take it leave it in the cage over night. This is how I got my male BP to start eating again. Check the rat in the morning If he didn't take it refreeze or throwout the rat. (don't refreeze more than once.) Don't worry because as long as you don't see a difference in his weight/size he is fine. A month is nothing at all.

Smaller preys (65 grams) rat once a week should allow you to have a BP that eats with consistency.

Remember going off feed can be husbandry related so also make sure to double check everything (temps, humidity etc)

Temps and humididty are good im am always monitoring that. I keep them in tubs on a Helix DBS-1000. The rats im feeding are medium size witch rodent pro states are between 85-174g.
My ball python is roughly 3 1/2-4 feet long wiht a good healthy fatness. There has been no change in wieght (visualy anyway, No scale) i have also tried feeding a small rat (45-85g)that i have for my other BP and he didnt take that either. Im not freaking out yet because i know this is not uncommon to happen and i have been anticipating it as long as i have had them. Just looking for advice and support i guess
    Thanks

this is how i got my bp to start eating again... i put a fuzzy rat in his cage, turned the lights off (bp's are nocturnal they feed at night in wild), made sure there was no other action going on in the room he was in and just left it in there for a day. he came around and ate it. after that he started eating regularly again. hope your guy eats. i wouldnt worry too much tho a month isnt too long

As Long As She Is Healthy She Will Be Ok. You Might Try A Difrent Rodent.

I was just doing some reading and it was said that BP's can go off feed during the breeding season impregnated or not, Is this true? Also is it breeding season i think it is about this time but maybe im wrong

Small rat once a week is fine..imo I feed the babies and yearlings a little more but I pretty much feed the adults once a week although some my eat more that one meal.

If it's a breeding female that needs the extra weight after laying or needs a little extra weight put on, I'll bump it up a bit but pretty much once a week fits the bill.
