Got a Genetic question here
Ok here it goes.. I have a snow male that was produced this year from a breeding of a blizzard female to a Amel Male. My question being is he Het for blizzard or did the anery and amel gene cancal the charcoal gene out. I plan to breed him to a couple blizzards next year if he is in fact a blizzard het, if not I need to start shopping for a blizzard male.. What are your thoughts on this. As I am not real clear on the whole genetic thing in cases like this.
Re: Got a Genetic question here
Let's see if I can answer this in a few simple words to make it easy on you. :)
If your female is a Blizzard then she's an Amel Charcoal. If she is able to produce a Snow, then she's het. Anery. Since a snow resulted from the pairing it means your male is also het. Anery. The snow you produced is an Amel Anery het. Charcoal.
Could we see pictures of the parents? What did the other hatchlings in the clutch look like?
Hope that helps :)

Re: Got a Genetic question here
I bought this snake and half the clutch. But half the clutch was snow and the other half was amel. So when this snake is bred to a blizzard what is my % of blizzards neonates...
Re: Got a Genetic question here
If in face half the clutch were snows, then it's probably likely that the blizzard is homo anery a as well and the amel is het anery. Are you positive that the blizzard was in fact a blizzard and not possibly a snow?
If it's definitely a blizzard then half snows half amels suggests that she is homo anery A as well as anery B.
Re: Got a Genetic question here
She was purchased from a well know breeder. He has been in the trade for many years and I feel comfortable with the snake being a blizzard. Here a picture of her. She has recently shed and she is quite eye catching. She is solid white with no saddles to be seen and her eyes are red. And the second picture is of her sibling the snow male in question. This blizzard is better looking than the other three blizzards I have. And my snow doesn't look like other snows I've seen before. Is it a certain morph of snow???

Re: Got a Genetic question here
If that's the mother then she's definitely a blizzard. And half snows and half amels implies that she's also homo for anery a, though at a minimum she's het anery a and you got really good odds!
And that snow is definitely a looker. He could possibly be homo hypo as that tends to have a pinkening effect on them, but not always. He could just be a bubblegum snow who is very pink. It'll be easier to make a judgement call in 6 months. I've found that snows can change color a lot from hatchling to when they're older.
