miracle grow????
My female is turning into a monster. I weighed her about a month ago and she was 760 grams and when i took her out and weighed her tonight she is 981 grams. talk about a growth spurt. thats 221 grams in a month. Has anyone ever had a spurt this big???? I dont over feed her I only switched to rats about 3 months ago and small rats at that. One every 8 days or soo maybe more depending on how large the last meal was. She is not fat you can feel her muscles under the skin not a thick layer of fat. Its just surprising to me that she could be that big at only a year and a half. Well just wanted to know some of your thoughts. thanks. I will try to post some pics of her in a few days shes in shed right now. I couldnt resist taking her out and weighing her because she just looked soo big to me. I havent handled her in a month. lol.

Re: miracle grow????
My normal just jumped around 150g's in a month. Not as big a difference, but still a bit shocking to me.

Re: miracle grow????
That kind of weight gain is not out of the realm of possibility. Once they start nearing the 1000 gram mark, if they are consistent feeders, they can easily put on 200 grams per month. I typically find that they put on 100-150 grams per month after 1000 grams, but have had some do the 200 grams per month spurts (sometimes even for 2 or 3 months in a row).

I don't know how they do it - but it seems like every one of mine go from 800 to 1200 practically overnight - some kind of natural growth spurt or something. Of course then they seem to sit at 1200 forever no matter what you feed them - especially if its a female you are trying to get weight on before breeding. :weirdface
Gotta love 'em.

I have noticed this also. After they get past that 1000 mark it is off to the races
