mites or wood lice?

    mites or wood lice?
    ok i think i have mites i don't know how my snakes are never outside but i took all the substrate out and put news paper in and there are black flea looking things in there now i will try to grab a few pics in a little but how do i get rid of mites

    If they are black with a tiny white speck on them, they are snake mites. The babies are red. Look closely and see.

    Wood lice are white.

    You can use Provent A Mite (PAM for short) and treat everything.

    There are also other products you can use as well, but PAM seems to be the general consensus's favorite choice.

    the mites are black with a tendril sticking off of them

    There are snake mites and there are wood mites and rodent mites.... they are all very similar looking. Rodent mites being the worst if you breed your own rodents.

    The wood and Rodent mites won't be an issue other then be annoying, but still need to be killed as with the snake mites that obviously need to be treated.

    Regular cleaning of the enclosure is important to prevent mites laying eggs that will hatch.

    Spraying the cage is important too. Wash any of them off your animals.

    crap . . . alright well i have scalded they're tanks and soaked them and got about 10 mites off of them i will keep them in a quarantine tank tonight and get the PAM tomorrow when i go out for the saturday shopping trip at first i thought they were just wood mites so i scalded the tank and replaced the substrate with newspaper

    and pat ~.~ . . . your strange.
