Hullo. I am considering getting a pair of Geckos to breed. Are they hard to breed? How often do they need to be fed? Is it hard to sell the babies?

It would be great to hear some opinions and experiences that people have of these herps.

Yup. Don't worry. I won't breed until I'm knowledgeable on the subject, if I even decide to get some. Right now, I'm justing hoping to find out more about them, and hear people's oppinoins.

I'm going to breed snakes at some point, and was wondering how hard it is to breed geckos in comparison. I've been wanting to get some for a while.

i would suggest possibly starting with just one while you get the feel for them and getting all the husbandry down. if you do start with a pair, remember to quarantine if they don't come from the same source and to keep them separately until they are both proper breeding age and weight.

they aren't particularly hard to breed. breeding season starts in february and continues through the spring, but they can be bred at any time of year by adjusting the light cycles. difficulty in selling the offspring depends on what morph(s) you start with--for instance, normals are abundant and harder to sell.

i leave a dish of mealworms in the leo cage at all times and supplement with crickets 2-3 times per week. you can also feed phoenix worms, feeder roaches, silkworms and waxworms on occasion as a treat (especially for breeding females, to help them gain fat back after laying).
