I think I've decided
on what morph to breed to Zim (snow). If I breed an Amber corn snake to my snow corn snake, I get hets for butter and hets for ghost. This is according to the corn snake offspring calculator.
Since I'm looking to get this amber as an adult and I hope to get it within the next two months, I was wondering about how much do ambers cost and are there any good breeders that have them available. I would look online but I don't know who is considered a 'good' breeder in the corn snake world.

Well you could check out Kathy Love :gj:

Re: I think I've decided
The only thing is it'll be a lot easier to check out these kinds of websites and find the hatchlings and the yearlings.
Finding an adult is usually more expensive, and if for some reason the animal is cheap you probally don't want to breed it.
I don't think Kathy has an adults avaliable at the moment. Your best bet is to contact the breeders inquiring if they do have any animals avaliable that meet your needs.

Re: I think I've decided
I didn't see any ambers or adults in general so I put up an ad at cornsnakes.com letting anyone on there know what I'm interested in.

Re: I think I've decided
It's going to be hard to find an adult female amber; especially as breeding season is just upon us. I'd expect to pay more than $200 for one. And CS.com is a good source to try and find one, but like I said, it's going to be hard to get one. You may want to try and find a yearling or something and just wait until next year. But you never know.
And if you breed a snow to an amber, you will get quadruple hets for: amel, anery, caramel, and hypo. The F2 would be a huge color array.

Re: I think I've decided
I need an Amber MALE. lol. Zim is a girl. I know the F1 generation would be normals who are hets. Then I could grow some of them up and breed them and hope for ghosts and butters and a few others.
Oh and a Charcoal would be nice because I could work towards blizzards.
Anyone know anything on stripes? I love striped snakes and I want to try my hand at producing some ghost stripes, snow stripes, and anery stripes. (not all in the same breeding of course, but goals for the future. :P)

Re: I think I've decided
Well an Amber male could be easier to come by then.
Stripe is just a simple recessive mutation. It is allelic to motley, though motley is dominant. So you can have a motley het stripe, but cannot have a stripe het motley. And there are some motleys who exhibit some striping - these do not mean the snake is a motley het stripe, but are frequently just called motley-stripes as the could be homozygous motley but still exhibit some striping.

Re: I think I've decided
Stephanie, the mod for the cornsnakes forum at Fauna does a lot with stripes. She may have some stuff still available.
