Night time behavior
I am new to ball pythons and i have learned very much from this site. I am curious on how long dose your ball stay out of his hide at night. my ball is out right now and he usualy isnt ( i made some changes in lighting today and he seems to like it) I was wondering how long will i generaly be able to enjoy his presence.
Thanks.

Re: Night time behavior
Well, if it hasn't been out at night before, I'm guessing it's because it waited till you were asleep before coming out and partying. Ball Pythons being nocturnal, after all. Mine seem to be at their most exploratory around midnight. I think they pool their collective conscious to try and take over my thoughts while I sleep. Occasionally I wake up thinking, "well, yeah, a nice plump rat WOULD taste good about now"....
:O
Cheers,
Kat

Re: Night time behavior
I'm fairly new to BP's too, I was up late the other night and my cat was cruzing around Marvolo's enclosure so I went over to get her away and low and behold Marvolo was out and about, one of the first times I had seen him out, it was midnight!!!! I believe that is when all the fun "things" come out to play~~~~

Re: Night time behavior
wow. my bp must be an early bird or owl or something. he is up around 8. and goes to bed around 7-8 in the a.m.

Re: Night time behavior
My BP sticks his nose/head out of his hide around 11:30pm, and starts to explore around 12am to 3-4am. I am a bit of an insomniac myself, so we make a good team. hehe.
To see some picts of him on his acrobatic escapades, click here:
But they don't climb...!

Re: Night time behavior
Mine is usually out and about by 8 or 9pm and is still out when I get up at 6am but goes in his hide shortly after that. He will come out before 8pm too if the lights are off in the room he is in even if they're on in the hall or the kitchen (we're kind of open concept).

Lucy is the exact same way. She is out early and goes to bed around 6 or 7.

Re: Night time behavior
BP's are very active around dawn and dusk, sleeping away the better part of the day. They emerge to warm up and start hunting for animals at night.
If your animal isn't up at the crack of dawn or dusk, don't sweat it, it may only move very late at night when you are asleep.

Re: Night time behavior
Mine seems to wait until around 11:30 and then he's right up against the glass until I open the top and he climbs up his branch right onto my arm. I noticed if I try to get him out much before that he just balls up and sits there.
